Reginald W. Bennett is a highly regarded research microbiologist who has dedicated 58 years of service to the industry. He has been instrumental in advancing the industry and the techniques used in research. Mr. Bennett has lent his talents to the FDA for more than half a century and plans to continue working toward preventing food borne illnesses in the future.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Bennett has worked in a variety of positions. He lectured at the Istanbul Technical University in Turkey, University of Maryland, University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, Catholic University in Chile, Universidad Autonoma De Nuevo Leon in Mexico, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand, and University of Melbourne, Australia. Mr. Bennett also served as an assistant professor of food microbiology at Benedict University.

Mr. Bennett has made countless contributions to the industry and is often sought after for his expertise. He authored and co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles or book chapters and has presented at conference and meetings in 14 different countries. Mr. Bennett was also credited with developing methods for dectecting and identifying heat-altered staphylococcal enterotoxin in canned foods. His knowledge and strong skill set also led to him training industry professional working for the FDA and foreign government laboratories. For his exceptional work, Mr. Bennett has been honored with the:

  • Distinguished Service Award, Rapid Methods and Automation in Microbiology Workshops, Division of Continuing Education, Kansas State University, Manhattan (1987-1997)

Mr. Bennett completed coursework at NIH Graduate School at the University of Virginia, and a Master of Science in microbiology and Bachelor of Science in microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh. To keep abreast of changes in his field, Mr. Bennett is affiliated with the Institute of Food Technologists, The American Society for Microbiology, International Association for Food Protection, and is a fellow of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists International and American Academy of Microbiology.
